Past

Defy Freerunning is a company built from a group of formerly-teenaged freerunners from Southern California, who called themselves Team Defy. Six childhood friends with an interest in parkour banded together and became a team, with the goal of making parkour videos. The team members were Jimmy Allen, Kyle Bowles, Ricky Spencer, Matt Hearne, Tim Anaya, & Jacob Powell. Jimmy Allen and Ricky Spencer are brothers, Jimmy and Jacob lived on the same street, Tim and Jacob were friends who grew up together, Jimmy met Kyle while at a summer camp, and finally, while the whole team was out freerunning one day they met Matt.

Their first self-titled DVD “Defy” was shot in the first three months. While hastily thrown together, this gave them the momentum to get started right away on their second video, entitled "Vertigo." After 8 months of shooting several times a week, the team believed they had created a video that reflected Team Defy's unique style. The team will often refer to this video as their first "real" video, because they believed "Defy" did not accurately reflect their skills or personalities. Immediately after releasing “Vertigo”, they sought to outdo themselves in their third video "Kinetic." They shot for over a year, and finally felt that had something that really showed off their talent and style. That video now stands as an accomplishment to the team and is the video which best reflects the mission and personality “Team Defy”.

Upon completion of “Kinetic”, everyone was all starting to attend college and the work-world, so went their separate ways (while still keeping in touch). There are still unfinished projects (and much more to come) from those who started 'Team Defy'. We now refer to the first "generation" of Team Defy as “Defy Underground”, and they may now moved on with their lives, but have not abandoned freerunning altogether. Instead, their continued love of freerunning has lead to a new generation called Defy Freerunning.

Present

Jimmy Allen is the Chief Creative Officer for Defy, Inc. (the parent company of Defy Freerunning), is an active member of the team, and still runs on occasion. Kyle also still runs with Jimmy, though they both are not as active as they would like to be. Ricky lives in Winchester with his mom and dad but still finds time to jump around a bit when he gets the chance. Jacob injured his knee and is no longer able to perform high impact running, but he is still good friends with Jimmy. Tim and Matt still stay in contact and get together from time to time. Defy Freerunning has been undergoing some growth lately that will hopefully lead to a better era of Defy. With the launch of our new website and our CEO, Tyson Farris taking on Defy, Inc. full time, we hope to start launching videos on a regular weekly basis. Check out our YouTube Channel for updates.

Future

It is our goal to start launching theme based freerunning videos that will be fun to watch, and which will hopefully inspire the next generation of freerunners. Look forward to videos such as “Elements”, “All in a Days Work”, “Freerunner”, and the documentaries showing where we have been. and where we are now. Also, in late 2015, you can look forward to when we will have merchandise and DVDs on Sale in our Shop area. Thank you for being a part of our legacy and we look forward to what the future brings for all of us.
